What are the indications for Holter Recording?

Holter monitoring in pets is a valuable tool for assessing heart rhythm over an extended period, from 24h to 14 days. Common indications include:

Evaluation of Arrhythmias

Detecting and assessing the severity and frequency of supraventricular or ventricular tachyarrhythmias and bradyarrhythmias

Monitoring Antiarrhythmic Therapy

Assessing the efficacy of medical treatments for heart rhythm disturbances

Diagnosing Syncope and Pre-syncope

Helping to determine the cause of fainting or near-fainting episodes when heart rhythm disturbances are not evident during a standard ECG

Pedigree Screening

Particularly in breeds prone to cardiomyopathy, such as Doberman Pinschers, Boxers, and GSD older than 3-years to detect markers like ventricular premature contractions

Assessing Pacemaker Function

Evaluating the functional integrity of implanted artificial pacemakers

Evaluation of Ventricular Response in Atrial Fibrillation

Monitoring the ventricular response rate during treatment for atrial fibrillation

Exercise Intolerance

To detect arrhythmias during physical activity

Post-surgical Follow-up

After cardiac procedures to monitor recovery
